South Pasadena : Sidewalk Repair Bills Cut

Share

The City Council has decided to give residents a 50% break on their bills for sidewalk repairs last year.

The council decided that the city should share the costs of the program after several residents complained at a Dec. 19 public hearing about the quality of the repair work.

“We’re taking some of the blame or responsibility for that,” Councilman Harry Knapp said.

The council voted voted 4 to 0 Wednesday to shoulder 50% of the cost of the $110,843 project.

Mayor Evelyn Fierro abstained because of a conflict of interest. She was one of the more than 200 property owners who had their sidewalks repaired. Her assessment of $2,775, the largest in the city, was trimmed to $1,387.50 by the council action.
