In other boys’ basketball games:

Cleveland 102, San Fernando 39--Brandon Martin scored 39 points and Cleveland snapped its three-game losing streak at San Fernando in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Kenny Collins (15 points), Carlos Vasquez (15) and Kayheed Murray (14) also had big nights for Cleveland (11-5, 2-0). San Fernando (4-9, 0-2) was paced by Gerald Harris’ 16 points.

Grant 83, Sylmar 28--Wayne Carlisle scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds off the bench to pace host Grant (11-2, 5-0) in a Mid-Valley League laugher.

Sean McMahon added 14 points and Brunell Mori had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Grant.

North Hollywood 60, Monroe 54--North Hollywood’s Robert Hill scored as many fourth-quarter points as the entire Monroe team in the Mid-Valley League game. Visiting Monroe led, 44-41, but Hill scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the final quarter.

Chatsworth 57, Kennedy 54--Trailing by four with less than two minutes to play, host Chatsworth put on a full-court press and turned around the North Valley League game. J. P. Labrador led Chatsworth (4-7, 1-1) with 17 points and Joe Wyatt led Kennedy (7-8, 0-2) with 12.

Van Nuys 72, Canoga Park 67--Mike Crawford scored 14 of his 26 points in the second quarter to stake Van Nuys to a 40-24 halftime lead in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Canoga Park.

Lindsey Dunbar had 21 points and nine assists for Canoga Park (5-11, 2-4) and Steve Woodruff added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Sherman Oaks CES 47, Birmingham 46--Raleigh Henderson, in his first game of the season for Sherman Oaks CES, had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 10 minutes of the Valley Pac-8 League win.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Cleveland 58, San Fernando 22--Amy Horst had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Laurie Williams added 17 points, 10 steals and 10 rebounds for Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Van Nuys 69, Canoga Park 55--Jenny Chi scored a game-high 23 points as host Van Nuys (13-3, 5-0) won a Mid-Valley League game. Colleen Pratt scored 22 points for Canoga Park.

North Hollywood 86, Monroe 24--Junior point guard Suzi Shimoyama broke her own North Hollywood single-game record with 11 steals in the Mid-Valley League game at Monroe.

Taft 53, El Camino Real 51--After trailing for much of the game, Taft (6-3, 1-1) moved ahead in the last two minutes when Alissa Tishler made a three-point shot. Julie Kawamoto hit two free throws to seal Taft’s Northwest Valley Conference home victory.

Grant 59, Sylmar 46--Monique Young scored 15 points for Grant (6-5), and Sylmar’s Lillian Stanford scored 21 in the East Valley League opener.

Birmingham 52, Sherman Oaks CES 43--Valery Vargas scored 18 points and Tracie Harris added 16 and 10 assists as Birmingham won a Mid-Valley League game.

Birmingham 1, Monroe 0--German Galeota scored for Birmingham (5-0 in conference play) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
