PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Trabuco Hills Wins at End on Christ’s Basket

Ron Christ rebounded a blocked shot and scored a layup with three seconds left as Trabuco Hills High School withstood a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Laguna Hills, 68-67, in a Pacific Coast League game Friday at Trabuco Hills.

Doug Schellenberg had scored his only basket of the game, a three-pointer, to give Laguna Hills its only lead, 67-66.

Corey Klinke scored 14 points, Brett Poulos and Scott DuPar each scored 12 for Trabuco Hills (3-11, 2-0).

Paul LaMott and Brian Matsen each scored 26 for Laguna Hills.

In other Pacific Coast League games:

Estancia 71, Century 59--Paul McDaniel and Mike Haas scored 15 points for ninth-ranked Estancia (13-4, 2-0). Chris Lopez had 11 points for Century (0-2).

Laguna Beach 77, Costa Mesa 63--Despite missing much of the third quarter because of foul trouble, Josh Borella scored 43 points, one short of his career high, for visiting Laguna Beach (10-7, 1-1).

In the Century League:

Foothill 65, Santa Ana Valley 54--Forward Sean Amos, whose free throw Wednesday night beat Canyon, scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds for Foothill (2-1, 8-9). Teammate Nick Konopisos added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Canyon 54, Orange 49--Eric Oliver scored 15 points to lead the Comanches at Canyon. The Comaches made nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to hang on for the victory at Canyon.

El Modena 75, Villa Park 50--Mike Terry scored 17 points and Aaron Aguilera added 13 for visiting El Modena (12-6, 3-0). Matt Gibson had 15 for Villa Park.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 78, Troy 42--Terry Mann had a school-record 12 blocked shots to go with his 11 rebounds and six points as Sunny Hills improved to 11-5, 2-0 in league.

Fullerton 64, La Habra 57--Craig Olson scored 31 points to lead Fullerton (9-7, 2-0). Dave Rowland scored 15 for La Habra (6-10, 0-2).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 92, Ayala 55--Ruben Oronoz scored 31 points, including six three-point baskets, for host Whittier Christian (6-8, 3-1).

Buena Park 59, Sonora 58--Angel Barrios hit a layup with three seconds left to lead Buena Park (10-6, 2-0). Barrios had 13 points for Buena Park.

Brethren Christian 56, Whitney 50--Brandon Stott (12-3, 3-1) scored 14 points as Brethren held Whitney to only three points in the third quarter.

Orange Lutheran 68, Ontario Christian 65--Brian Bedord scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Orange Lutheran (6-8, 3-1).

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 49, Liberty Christian 39--Ryan Westendorf scored 28 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for host St. Margaret’s (9-5, 2-0).

In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:

Rancho Alamitos 81, Los Amigos 47--Anita Stecker scored 18 points for visiting Rancho Alamitos (15-0, 5-0).

Santiago 52, Kennedy 44--Stefanie Cave had 15 points and Becky Elcock 14 points and 15 rebounds for host Santiago (8-6, 3-2). Kennedy is 3-2 in league.

Pacifica 39, Garden Grove 29--Jennifer Surface scored 19 points for visiting Pacific (5-6, 3-2).
