COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Guards Lift Moorpark to Victory

Moorpark College beat West L. A. with its guards up Saturday night, as backcourt partners Damian Wilson and Sam Crawford helped the Raiders improve to 20-3 with a 91-70 Western State Conference interdivision basketball win at West L. A.

Wilson scored 25 points and Crawford had 15 and 13 assists to lead the attack. Moorpark center Sean Boyle had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Oxnard 68, Glendale 65--Shawn Talley scored a game-high 27 points for Oxnard in a Western State Conference interdivision game at Glendale.

Canyons 75, Santa Barbara City 60--All 12 Cougars scored to pace the victory over Santa Barbara (3-14) in a nonconference game at Canyons (9-11).

Whittier 81, Occidental 68--Occidental shot just 33% from the field in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at home.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 70, Pierce 55--Forward Donna Houck scored a game-high 19 points to lead Moorpark in a nonconference game at Pierce.

Valley 60, Ventura 44--Katina Mines scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Monarchs (19-3) past Ventura in a nonconference game at Valley.

Canyons 85, Santa Barbara 67--Kim Posey scored a game-high 24 points to pace Canyons (11-9) to a Western State Conference interdivision win at home. Keira Irwin scored 16 points and made three three-point shots to increase her season total to 52, breaking Tressie Millender’s 1990 school record of 50.

Redlands 70, Master’s 63--Despite a game-high 22 points from Courtney Hergert, Master’s (2-14) fell at Redlands.

MEN’S SWIMMING

USC 139, Cal State Northridge 88--The Trojans won all but two events in a nonconference meet at USC.

John Kunishima won the 200-meter freestyle (1 minute 50.6 seconds) and Dave Ruttenberg won the 500-meter freestyle (4:49.8) for Northridge (3-3).

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

USC 142, Cal State Northridge 102--Marti Carlson placed first in the 100 (1:02.9) and 200-meter (2:14.8) backstroke, but the Matadors (5-3) lost to host USC in a nonconference meet.
