The San Diego Gulls acquired forward Byron Lomow from the IHL’s Albany Choppers in exchange for the rights to former Gulls center Jim McGeough.

Lomow, a 25-year old left wing, has scored 12 goals and has had nine assists in the 40 games he has played this season for Albany.

The Gulls also acquired defenseman Mike Hurlbut on loan from the AHL’s Binghamton Rangers. Hurlbut is expected to play both home games this week before being sent back to Binghamton.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cari Young scored 17 points to lead UC San Diego to a 60-49 victory over visiting UC Santa Cruz. Kathleen Alvarez added 11 points and Lisa Beaver scored 10 for UCSD. Beaver and Bernadette Diepenbrock led UCSD with nine rebounds each. Shanna Margolis scored 18 points for UC Santa Cruz. UCSD (11-4) led, 35-14, at halftime.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

University of San Diego lost to Fresno State, 190-33 at USD. USD’s Mary Bergen won the 100-yard breast stroke in 1:12.59. In the 200-yard breast stroke, USD’s Tracey Schweiger placed first in 2:35.24 and teammate Nora Settimi placed third (2:50.07).
