Ex-Teacher Gets 180 Days for Molesting Students

Share

A former San Dieguito High School teacher was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in County Jail, having plead guilty to molesting two female students last year.

The sentencing of George Dewey Warner III, 34, of Encinitas, was heard by more than 60 people who listened to emotional testimony from four victims and their parents before Warner was sentenced.

The contact took place in 1990, and all four victims were 15 to 17 years old.

In a plea bargain, Warner pleaded guilty Nov. 30 to two counts of misdemeanor child molestation, and charges involving two other victims were dropped.

San Diego Municipal Judge Charles Patrick gave him credit for days already served, leaving him to serve 113 more days in custody.

Patrick placed Warner on three years’ probation, ordered him to register as a sex offender when he is released and to avoid contact with minors unless an adult is present. He is to stay away from the victims and their families and to pay a $400 fine.

Warner, who was a social studies teacher at the Encinitas school for five years, has lost his teaching credential because of the convictions.
