COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Arkansas Strikes Quickly to Win

It was quick and decisive as second-ranked Arkansas hit 13 of its first 17 shots and rolled past Texas Christian, 93-73, in a Southwest Conference game at Ft. Worth Tuesday night.

Todd Day, who had a school-record 11 consecutive games of 20 points or more, led Arkansas, 16-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference, with 19 points. The Hogs defeated TCU in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for the first time in three years.

Guard Michael Strickland scored 23 points, including five three-point shots for the Horned Frogs (11-2, 3-1).

No. 10 St. John’s 85, Providence 79--Malik Sealy scored 35 points and Chucky Sproling had five of his 10 points in overtime as the Redmen (12-2, 3-2) rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit in a Big East game at New York.

St. John’s almost won in regulation, but Jason Buchanan missed a shot with six seconds left and Providence (10-6, 1-4) rebounded.

Missouri 80, No. 11 Oklahoma 72--Doug Smith scored 31 points and Anthony Peeler 19 as the Tigers provided Coach Norm Stewart with his 200th Big Eight victory in a game at Columbia, Mo.

Missouri (10-4, 3-0) is 7-0 since Peeler returned from academic problems that sidelined him the first semester.

No. 20 LSU 90, Alabama 80--Mike Hansen scored 24 points to lead the Tigers (11-3, 4-1) to their first win at Alabama since 1981.

James Robinson scored 23 points for Alabama (9-5, 3-2).

No. 25 Seton Hall 71, Boston College 62--Gordon Winchester and Jerry Walker each scored four points during a 13-0 run late in the game to lead Seton Hall (11-3, 4-2) to a Big East win over the Eagles (9-7, 1-4) at Newton, Mass.
