PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Marina Girls Rally to Beat Edison, 63-54

Marina High School outscored Edison by 12 points in the fourth quarter, rallying to a 63-54 victory in a Sunset League girls’ basketball game Tuesday at Marina.

Colleen Hatch had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Gillian Bean added 15 points for Marina (13-4, 4-0).

Edison (13-6, 3-2) had outscored Marina, 19-8, in the third quarter and held a 46-43 lead at the start of the decisive final quarter, in which the Vikings outscored the Chargers, 20-8.

Melanie Iwamasa led the Chargers with 14 points.

In other Sunset League games:

Huntington Beach 91, Westminster 47--Dana Jahr scored a career-high 20 points, 18 of them in the first half, to pace visiting Huntington Beach (14-5, 3-1). Other Oiler standouts included Jana Davis with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Deana Itow with 15 points, 11 assists and five steals, and Jennifer Johnson with a game-high 14 rebounds and seven points. Westminster (3-11, 0-4) was led by Lori Yoshizaki with 13 points.

Fountain Valley 49, Santa Ana 47 (2 OT)--Christina Coleman scored the only points of the second overtime for Fountain Valley (11-7, 3-1) at Santa Ana. Coleman scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Barons rallied to tie the score after trailing by three points after three quarters. Susan Mendez had 10 points and 18 rebounds for Santa Ana.

Angelus League girls:

St. Joseph 61, Santa Margarita 46--Sarah Witte and Leslie Nolan each had 12 points for Santa Margarita (1-11, 0-3).

Mater Dei 57, Bishop Amat 33--Zsuzsi Berkhalter had 19 points for host Mater Dei (8-8, 3-0).

Orange League girls:

Valencia 78, Anaheim 32--Allison Granger had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead host Valencia (10-5, 3-0). Summer McLain added 15 points for Valencia and teammate Heather Kidd had 11 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals. For Anaheim (0-3 in league), Trina DeSylvia scored 12 points, all on three-point shots.

Brea-Olinda 76, Magnolia 45--Jody Anton had 27 points and Jinelle Williams had 12 for visiting Brea-Olinda (16-0, 3-0). Joyce Pe’a had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Yolanda Hearvey had 11 points and nine rebounds for Magnolia (9-4, 0-3).

Savanna 64, Western 43--Sara Works had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Wendy Castro had 14 points and nine rebounds, Stacey Aliff had 13 points and Carrie Frederick had 11 points and eight assists for Savanna (15-2, 2-1).

Freeway League girls:

Fullerton 65, Sunny Hills 26--Minette Gomez scored 16 points and Marinela Misa and Laurie Maturo each added 10 for host Fullerton (7-7, 3-0).

Pacific Coast League girls:

Costa Mesa 70, Century 28--Olivia DiCamilli scored 17 points for visiting Costa Mesa and Rachel Ward added 10 at Century (4-9, 0-3). Lucy Guerrero scored 11 points to lead Century. Costa Mesa (12-6, 3-0) led, 16-4, after the first quarter and outscored Century, 19-2, in the final quarter.

Estancia 64, Laguna Hills 34--Melody Earle had 23 points and Patrice Lumpkin 15 for Estancia (15-1, 3-0). Tonya Stevens had 19 for Laguna Hills (3-9, 1-2).

Olympic League girls:

Orange Lutheran 59, Whittier Christian 54--Erika Ebel had 15 points, Renee Wright had 13 and Becky Pearson 10 for visiting Orange Lutheran (5-5, 3-1).

Sea View League girls:

Tustin 68, Corona del Mar 42--Christine Garner had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead host Tustin (16-3, 3-0). Shari Needham added 22 points and 11 rebounds for Tustin. For Corona del Mar (10-8, 1-2), Tahlia Wagner had 14 points.

Woodbridge 55, University 39--Deanna Harry had 22 points and 11 rebounds for host Woodbridge (13-3, 2-0). Florence Luppani added 12 points for Woodbridge.

Newport Harbor 54, Saddleback 30--Michaela Ross scored 14 points and Ali Barry had 12 to lead visiting Newport Harbor. Jenni Hall added 10 for Newport Harbor (8-7, 1-1).

South Coast League girls:

Mission Viejo 53, San Clemente 44--Carrie Burt had 20 points and eight steals and Barbara Evans had 12 points for host Mission Veijo (8-8, 2-1).

Century League girls:

Canyon 68, El Modena 58--Erin Waggoner had 27 points as host Canyon handed El Modena its first league loss. Kori Dalbey added 14 for Canyon (9-7, 3-1) and Rona Rathod had 12. For El Modena (9-4, 3-1), Michelle Duckworth had 15 points and Collette Williams had 13.

Santa Ana Valley 47, Villa Park 25--Santa Ana Valley outscored visiting Villa Park, 17-2, in the first quarter. Eight of Santa Ana Valley’s 11 players scored, led by Mai Pham who had eight points and Tracy Thomas, who also had eight points and 22 rebounds.

Foothill 50, Orange 24--Melissa Wielandt scored 18 points for host Foothill (2-13, 2-2).

Academy League boys:

Liberty Christian 77, St. Michael’s Prep 64--Dave Vaccaro made nine of 10 shots, and had 20 points and 17 rebounds for Liberty Christian (6-8, 1-1) at the Crown Valley YMCA in Laguna Niguel. Jacques Wright, who had 36 points and Jon Grobler, who had 24 points, scored 60 of St. Michael’s 64 points.

St. Margaret’s 68, Cal Lutheran 40--Ryan Westendorf scored 25 of his game-high 30 points in the first half to lead St. Margaret’s (10-5, 2-0) at Cal Lutheran. Westendorf also had 17 rebounds. Brad Plukhan led Cal Luthern with 20 points.

Olympic League boys:

Whittier Christian 75, Orange Lutheran 74--Orange Lutheran’s fourth-quarter rally fell short. Trailing 56-44, the Lancers outscored the Heralds, 30-19, in the fourth quarter. Cory Fleming made a three-point shot with six seconds remaining but visiting Whittier Christian ran out the clock. Paul Stoico had 25 points and Ruben Oronoz had 17 for Whittier Christian (7-8, 4-1). Chad Mihr had 21 points, including five three-point shots, for Orange Lutheran (6-9, 3-2).

Brethren Christian 64, Capistrano Valley Christian 48--Chiron Hart scored 15 points and three others were in double figures for visiting Brethren Christian (13-4, 4-1). Chris Fry had 12 for Brethren and Brandon Stott and Scott Thomas each had 11. Nathan Owens had 19 points for Capistrano Valley Christian (3-12, 1-4).
