Jeff Bickmore had 21 points and 10 rebounds as Southern California College defeated Cal Baptist, 83-72, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday at SCC.
The Vanguards (15-3, 2-1 in conference), who shot 55% from the field, led, 39-23, at the half and were never challenged. Elbert Davis had 14 points and six steals and the Vanguards forced 28 turnovers.
Neil Zwart had 18 points and Greg Fisher 17 for Cal Baptist (10-6, 0-2).
In another Golden State Athletic Conference men’s game:
Point Loma Nazarene 77, Christ College Irvine 70--Mark Bulgin had 19 points and Sean Giles had 16 for Point Loma (9-9). Jamie McShan had 24 points for Christ College Irvine (7-12), which led, 41-38, at the half.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 61, Cal Baptist 59--The Vanguards trailed by as many as 11 points, but held on to win its third consecutive game. Darnell Good made two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to put the Vanguards ahead, 61-56.
Heidi Frias made a three-point shot with nine seconds left to bring Cal Baptist within two points.
Suzanne Bakos had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Kristen Bevis had 12 points and five steals for the Vanguards (9-8, 2-1).
In nonconference wrestling:
Cal State Fullerton 20, Brigham Young 14--Heavyweight David Jones, ranked fifth in the nation, defeated Chris Denison, 12-4, for the Titans (6-4) at BYU. Jones (21-3) was one of three Titans to win his match by major decision. The others were Jeff Maes, who beat Robert Ho, 18-5; and Lyndon Campbell, who beat Don Vantassell, 14-2.
