Grocery Store Owner Fatally Shoots Robber
The operator of a small grocery in Maywood shot and fatally wounded one of three armed holdup men who robbed his store of $200 Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The grocer, Gilberto Romero, 46, reached for a pistol as the robbers were leaving the store at 5075 Randolph St. and fired several shots, hitting one of them in the chest, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Mary Landreth said. The two others escaped.
The stolen money was found on the wounded suspect, who died at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood about an hour after the shooting, Landreth said.
The identity of the dead man was not immediately known.
