Students Walk Out Over Athletics Cancellation

Share

At least 300 Pasadena High School students on Wednesday walked out of class to protest cancellation of last-period athletics. Principal Judy Codding had suspended the traditional practice of allowing athletes to practice with their teams during the last-class period, saying necessary schedule changes would disrupt too many students.

“They’re taking away from us and the sports program,” said football player Stacy Townsend. Other students said the administration had changed academic and extracurricular programs without adequate student input.

Codding met with some of the students but announced no policy change. Because the protest was peaceful, no disciplinary action will be taken as long as students return to classes today, she said.
