NAMES IN THE GAMES

The 1990-91 coaches directory says Flora Exercize leads the girls’ gymnastics team and Jim Knastic heads the boys’ team at Flint Kearsley High School at Flint, Mich.

Mike Hamilton, Kearsley’s athletic director, says it was a harmless joke when he and other coaches thought up names to write on forms for the Clell Wade Coaches Directory, a private company based in Cassville, Mo.

“We’ve had some fun with that,” Hamilton said. “All of our coaches in the sports we have are correct.”

He said they filed phony coaches for the second straight year as a way of handling junk mail from companies who use the guides as mailing lists.

The school’s listing includes: girls’ softball coach Rick Hardslide; boys’ rifle coach Roy Winchester and girls’ archery coach Jane Krossbow.
