Renard Carn, a Channel Islands High football and track standout, has orally committed to attend Colorado State.

The Raider tailback is the second area player to choose Colorado State this week: San Fernando tailback Leonice Brown also made an oral commitment with the school Monday.

Both players can sign a letter of intent Feb. 6, the first day of the winter signing period.

Carn (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) chose the Western Athletic Conference school over WAC rivals San Diego State and Hawaii because of the school’s International Business department and its location in Fort Collins, Colo.

“He just really fell in love with the school and the area,” Channel Islands Coach Joel Gershon said.

Carn has canceled a scheduled visit to Hawaii, Gershon said.

Carn, who missed five games last season because of a stress fracture in an ankle, rushed 42 times for 372 yards (8.9 average) and scored four touchdowns for the Raiders (5-5).

During the 1990 track season, Carn was ranked sixth in the region in the 100 meters at 10.7 seconds and fifth in the 200 at 22.1.
