HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL : Torrey Pines Defeats No.6 Fallbrook, 44-40

The Torrey Pines girls’ basketball team defeated No. 6 Fallbrook, 44-40, in a Palomar League game Thursday at Torrey Pines. The Falcons took a five-point (24-19) halftime lead but held on by just a basket (34-32) by the end of the third quarter. Fallbrook took its first lead of the game (38-36) with five minutes left to play but Torrey Pines battled back.

Torrey Pines (13-6, 5-3) was led by Daphne Brownson with 20 points. Michelle Hendricks scored 11 points for Fallbrook (14-3, 5-3).

In another Palomar League game:

Poway 65, Rancho Buena Vista 49--Jamie Shadian (18 points) and Allison Brady (13) combined to lead second-ranked Poway (16-1, 8-0). Dottie Feeney led all scorers with 21 points. Teammates A.J. Vituli and Jenny Fellers had 10 each for RBV (8-10, 1-7).

Avocado League

San Pasqual 64, Ramona 47--Kisha Riggs had a game-high 25 points for Ramona (1-13, 0-8). Valerie Ryan, Becky Callahan and Jill Combe had 17 apiece for San Pasqual.

Rancho Bernardo 57, Escondido 43--Rancho Bernardo trailed by one, 24-23, at halftime but outscored Escondido, 16-7, in the third quarter. Floriane Kemp led RB (13-3, 6-2) with 18 points. Escondido was led by Bethany French with 14 points.

Metro Conference

Mar Vista 45, Castle Park 65--Christina Murguia, the second-leading scorer in the county, with a 25.9 average, scored 27 points to lead the fourth-ranked Trojans (11-0). Teammate Erica Ockert added 20 points. Dawn Housman led Mar Vista (10-8, 5-6) with 17 points.
