Pepperdine Gets Past USF, 84-67
Doug Christie scored 19 points to lead Pepperdine to an 84-67 victory over the University of San Francisco in a West Coast Conference game Friday night.
With the score tied, 17-17, after nine minutes of play, Christie and Rex Manu ignited a 10-1 Pepperdine spurt to give the Waves (10-8, 4-1) a 27-18 lead.
Pepperdine led 33-29 at the half behind Christie’s 10 points.
Rick Welch’s outside shooting helped Pepperdine take a 58-45 lead with 10:33 remaining. Wilson Stephens led a 13-4 USF run to bring the Dons (10-9, 3-3) within 62-58 with 6:45 remaining.
Pepperdine widened its lead to 17 points behind the shooting of Dana Jones, Geoff Lear and Christie. Lear scored 18 points for the Waves, and Jones had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Tim Owens led USF with 19 but injured his ankle late in the game.
Pepperdine, which has won four in a row and plays at St. Mary’s tonight, shot 54.7% Friday night. USF shot 41.7%.
