The Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team is on a roll.

After defeating nationally ranked Long Beach State and UNLV the past week, the Titans bounced UC Santa Barbara out of first place in the Big West standings with a convincing, 76-50 victory Saturday night at Titan Gym.

As a result, Fullerton (14-4, 7-2) is in first place, a half game ahead of the Gauchos (12-5, 6-2) and UNLV.

“This is the first time we’ve been in first place at this stage since I’ve been here,” Titan Coach Maryalyce Jeremiah said. “Now we’ll see how good we are on the road.”

Guard Joey Ray shot over the Gaucho zone, which sagged in on center Genia Miller, to score 16 of her 21 points in the first half and help the Titans take a 40-20 halftime lead.

While Ray loosened the UCSB zone to give Miller room to operate, Fullerton’s man-to-man defense held the Gaucho offense to only eight for 29 shooting--27.8%--in the first half.

Despite a slow start, Miller finished with 32 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots.
