BUENA PARK : $31,500 Is Raised by Silverado Days
More than 59 organizations will share $31,500 raised during the 34th annual Silverado Days celebration, officials from the Noon Lions Club announced this week.
The money, distributed at a special luncheon Tuesday, was collected during the four-day event last October. “It was a good year,” said general chairman Gary Peterson.
This year’s total was up about $5,000 over last year, allowing the Lions Club to fill all requests for grants, Peterson said. The funds are generated by booth rentals and tickets for carnival rides that fill Peak Park during the festival.
The Buena Park Boys and Girls Club, struggling to raise money for several months, received the largest grant, $3,500. The money will be applied to general operating expenses, Peterson said.
Other recipients include local schools, the Buena Park Civic Theatre, the senior center, Meals on Wheels and the library. About $10,000 was previously distributed to purchase buttons for the DARE program and to winners of the marching band contest held during the parade, one of the highlights of Silverado Days.
In honor of this year’s theme, “Saluting Scouting,” local Scout chapters got $1,000. The money will be used to send needy children to camp, officials said.
