HUNTINGTON BEACH : Car Collision Causes Blackout
Hundreds of residents went without electricity for more than an hour Thursday night after a suspected drunk driver slammed into a power pole and blew out three transformers, police said.
The accident occurred about 10 p.m. and blacked out the area from Edinger Avenue south to Warner Avenue between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street. Power was restored one hour and 10 minutes later.
The driver, Rene Zeferino, 20, of Huntington Beach, was booked at the Huntington Beach Police Department on suspicion of drunk driving and hit and run, Sgt. Bob Moran said. Zeferino suffered minor injuries.
