Boy Badly Injured While Riding Bike
LA HABRA — A teen-age boy who was struck by a car as he rode his bicycle in La Habra was listed in guarded condition Friday, hospital officials said.
Paul Hamner, 16, of La Habra was hit Thursday while crossing the street, said Cindy Knapp, a spokeswoman for the La Habra Police Department. He was unconscious and airlifted to UCI Medical Center Thursday afternoon, Knapp said.
The accident took place at about 5:58 p.m. when Hamner attempted to ride across Lambert Road at Martinez Drive in La Habra, Knapp said. Leticia Martinez, 27, of La Habra was the driver of the car that hit Hamner. She told police she saw a boy on a skateboard and slowed to avoid him, but never saw Hamner on his black bicycle.
She was not cited or arrested and officers were investigating the accident, Knapp said.
