Two San Juan Capistrano men suspected of taking part in a pair of recent early morning robberies and assaults were arrested on a local street.

Juan Pablo Avina, 22, and Eduardo Figueroa Rios, 19, were arrested at the intersection of Calle San Juan and Calle San Francisco in the Capistrano Villas area, within a few blocks of the site where two San Juan men were robbed, beaten and stabbed during the early morning of Jan. 28, said Lt. Bob Rivas of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Both were booked on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, Rivas said.

Investigators said the two suspects were identified by the victims through photographs.

The pair of assaults occurred within half an hour of each other. The first was at about 2:30 a.m. when a group of men confronted Ramiro Escamillo, 29, at the corner of Ramos Street and Los Rios Street in the historic Los Rios neighborhood, hit him with a pistol, stabbed him and took his wallet, according to police reports.
