Meanwhile, Charles Mayle, 72, of Calabasas, whose boat overturned near Surfers Point in Ventura on Sunday, was listed in serious condition at Ventura County Medical Center.

His companion, John Ballard, 31, of Woodland Hills, was listed in fair condition.

According to officials, both boats overturned within 150 yards of shore because of unusually high, six-foot swells caused by a winter storm at sea.
