Commerce : Mandatory Water Cutback of 10% to Begin in March

Share

The Commerce City Council has approved a water conservation plan that requires residents to reduce their water usage by 10% beginning in March.

A surcharge will be levied against residential, commercial and industrial users who do not meet that goal. The local water company, California Water Service Co., also could reduce the amount of water available to customers who repeatedly use too much.

The mandatory water conservation ordinance is one of the first to be enacted in the Southeast area. More cities are expected to pass mandatory conservation measures to cope with the drought, which is in its fifth year.
