Nominations for two leaders who promote the study of women in history are being accepted by the Women’s History Project of Ventura County.
One educator and one community activist will be given the group’s Erica Neville Memorial Alice Paul Award, project Chairwoman Martha Baskerville said.
Baskerville received the award last year for her work with the county public school curriculum office.
The awards are named for Alice Paul, who wrote the original text of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1923, and Erica Neville, a founder of the county Women’s History Project who died in 1986. The first award was given in the spring of 1986 in Neville’s honor.
Neville visited classrooms in Conejo Valley schools costumed as famous women in history and presented entertaining history lessons, Baskerville said.
Nominations for the awards will be accepted through Sunday. Those interested in nominating an educator or a community leader may call 644-9779 or 484-9604.
The awards will be presented March 16 at California Lutheran University’s Preus-Brandt Auditorium at 7 p.m.
