Casey’s Football Scholarship at USC Again Contingent on SAT Score

One year later, former Sylmar High football player Jerome Casey finds himself still in limbo. The running back-defensive back who committed to USC last year is awaiting the results of his latest attempt to score at least 700 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

After Casey committed to the Trojans last year, he failed to reach the NCAA-required 700 and enrolled at Mission College, where he is currently taking classes.

Casey visited USC two weeks ago and again committed to the Trojans, who will hold a scholarship for him. His name appeared on USC’s official release of 1991 recruits.

“It’s coming together,” Casey said. “I’m still working out and I’m real excited.”

Casey (6-foot, 185 pounds), considered one of the top players in the area, rushed for 1,447 yards and scored 26 touchdowns as a senior at Sylmar. From his strong safety position, he made 70 solo tackles, second on the team.
