Teen-Ager Arrested in Hit-Run Death

Police on Friday arrested a teen-age boy for the hit-and-run death of a man who was struck as he walked across a street in southwest Los Angeles.

The accident occurred on Vermont Avenue and Century Boulevard at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Ronald Ray of the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.

Paramedics pronounced the man, who was believed to be about 50, dead at the scene, Ray said. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

The victim was walking east across Vermont Avenue when he was hit by a northbound Volkswagen, Ray said. Police arrested the suspect, who was thought to be about 16 and was not identified, after talking to witnesses.
