Taking Potshots at Gun Control
Tim Rutten’s article describing the attitude of those like T. J. Johnston, who are unalterably opposed to gun control, is disturbing.
How any reasonable person who accepts the requirement of a license to drive a car can refuse outright to accept a 15-day checking period before being permitted to acquire a gun is difficult to understand.
But, as the article indicates, these are not reasonable people. They do not accept laws enacted by the legislature. They do not accept verdicts by courts law. Whether they know it or not, they are die-hards, fanatics. How else can people who reject decisions arrived at through the democratic process be described?
What I find disturbing is their failure to recognize that the only alternatives to democratic decision making is either anarchy or some form of dictatorship.
