After a weekend of fun-filled activities, the Vietnamese Tet festival at Golden West College ended as it began--with plenty of fun, food, dances and people.

On Sunday afternoon, more than 2,500 people attended the finale of the ninth annual festival, which celebrated the Year of the Goat, or Tet Tan Mui . It was the first time that the festival was held over two days.

The Tet, which marks the lunar new year, began Friday. The traditional Tet holiday emphasizes respect for elders as well as family togetherness.

At the festival, young and old alike enjoyed entertainment that included a dragon dance, martial-arts demonstrations, carnival rides and display booths featuring art and cultural exhibits, traditional games, flower arrangements and Vietnamese cuisine.

At another Tet celebration in Westminster, thousands of people gathered in Little Saigon for a festival sponsored by the Vietnamese Community Council of Southern California.

Held on a vacant lot behind the 99 Market shopping center on Bolsa Avenue, the community Tet festival celebrated the holiday as the Year of the Ram.
