ANAHEIM : Project Alpha Is On Time, Report Shows

Share

Project Alpha, Anaheim’s massive downtown redevelopment plan destined to rebuild the city’s razed hub, is proceeding on schedule, with construction of new buildings nearing completion in some areas, according to a biennial status report.

The 1.2-million-square-foot development, centered around the $200-million-plus Koll Anaheim Center, will include office buildings to house Pacific Bell and the city’s Public Utilities Department. The remaining space will be used for other offices and an entertainment complex with a movie theater, restaurants and shops, all within walking distance of City Hall.

Last week, the project took another step forward with groundbreaking on Heritage Place, a 400-unit housing project under construction near City Hall.

The homes, to be built on 22 acres of land by the Lincoln Property Co., will be part of an “urban village” modeled, in part, after towns where businesses, movie theaters and grocery stores are in close proximity.

The project, estimated to cost a little over $50 million, is expected to be complete within 15 months.

Groundbreaking for the 27,000-square-foot Masciel building took place last May. The office building, located on Lincoln Avenue at Anaheim Boulevard, is expected to be completed on schedule in a few months.
