Arsonist Sought in 12 Crenshaw Car Fires

Share

Authorities late Wednesday sought an arsonist who set several fires in apartment building garages in the Crenshaw District that destroyed as many as a dozen cars.

No injuries were reported.

About three dozen firefighters responded shortly after 9 p.m. and needed about eight minutes to put out the initial blazes in two rows of garages in the 4900 block of Linscott Place. Eight or nine cars were destroyed or damaged in the structures, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

About two hours later more blazes were reported in garages along Ursula and Nicolet avenues, south of the first fires. Firefighters quickly controlled the flames, but at least four more vehicles were involved, officials said.
