Moler Freed to Play for the Titans
Jason Moler, a former Esperanza High School baseball standout, has been released from his scholarship by Illinois Athletic Director John Mackovic and will join the Cal State Fullerton team as soon as he is cleared academically, Fullerton assistant coach George Horton said.
Moler took courses at Fullerton College last summer, and Horton sent transcripts from those classes to Illinois on Wednesday. Once they are reviewed and Moler is determined to be in good academic standing, he can begin playing.
“I don’t expect any problems,” Horton said. “We hope it’s done by Friday.”
The Titans (4-9) travel to Rice for a three-game series beginning Friday, and if Moler is available, Horton said he will start at third base for Trevor Rush, who is out because of a dislocated finger.
“It Trevor were healthy, it would have been a real tough decision where to play Jason,” Horton said. “Jason won’t be real sharp, but he’ll help out the most offensively. He’ll put another big bat in the middle of the order and be able to drive in some runs. We’ve been lacking that.”
