Coach Jerry Tarkanian of Nevada Las Vegas said he has warned his players not to associate with a former New Yorker who was involved in fixing sports events.

Tarkanian said he wasn’t aware that the man, Richard Perry, was coming to Rebel basketball games.

Perry was convicted in 1974 of federal charges related to fixing harness races in New York. In 1984, he pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit sports bribery in the Boston College basketball point-shaving scandal.

Perry resides in Las Vegas. He took credit for bringing former New York prep star Lloyd Daniels to Las Vegas. The university is under investigation by the NCAA for the recruiting of Daniels.
