Police arrested a San Bernardino man Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder for the stabbing of a 27-year-old man at the Newport Pier early Saturday.

Manuel P. Flores, 28, was arrested in the stabbing Keith Allen Wilson of Riverside.

Wilson was being treated at Hoag Hospital for numerous stab wounds to his upper body, Newport Police Sgt. Andy Gonis said.

Gonis said that police received a phone call at 4:50 a.m. from Hoag Hospital officials, informing them that they were treating a stabbing victim. Wilson’s condition was stable and he suffered no life-threatening wounds.

Flores, an unemployed cabinetmaker, was arrested shortly before noon at a home in Riverside and was being held on $250,000 bail, Gonis said.

Wilson and Flores, who apparently did not know each other, were on the pier fishing before dawn when they apparently became embroiled in an argument that led to the stabbing, Gonis said.
