Miller’s 23 Points, 15 Rebounds Lead Titan Women Past UCI

Genia Miller scored 23 points and had 15 rebounds as Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Irvine, 61-44, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at UC Irvine.

In CCAA men’s basketball:

Cal State Bakersfield 77, Chapman 58--Roger Middleton scored 15 points for visiting Chapman (12-15, 2-10).

In nonconference baseball:

Cal State Fullerton 8-4, Rice 3-6--The Titans scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning of the first game. Jason Moler, playing in his first game since being released from Illinois’ program, had two hits and scored twice, Frank Herman had three hits and scored once and Mike Berry had two hits and three runs batted in for Fullerton (5-10) in the first game. In the second game, Lee Kushner hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for Rice (7-9).

Pepperdine 9, UC Irvine 6--Jorge Paz had three hits, scored two runs and had one RBI for visiting Pepperdine. Matt Filson had two hits and one RBI and Mike Goodcase had two hits and scored a run for UC Irvine.

Christ College Irvine 5-11, Cal State San Bernardino 2-4--Paul Weldon had three hits, scored twice and had one RBI and Mike Adams had two hits and two RBIs for Christ College Irvine (9-5) in the first game. Terry Robinson had two hits, two runs and a three-run home run in the second inning to give CCI a 6-0 lead in the second game.

Southern California College 5, College of Idaho 1--Doug Rystrom had three hits including a two-run home run in the third inning and Brett Johnson (2-1) struck out nine batters in six innings for Southern California College (5-5) at UC San Diego.

Southern California College 8, UC San Diego 3--Justin Pysar had four hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning for SSC at San Diego.

In a CCAA baseball game:

Chapman 6, Cal State Dominguez Hills 5--Armando Plascentia allowed only six hits and struck out five for Chapman (1-2). Cal State Dominguez Hills is 2-1.

In nonconference softball:

Christ College Irvine 10-7, Whittier 4-1--Darcy Schipporeit had three hits, stole two bases and scored twice for host Christ College Irvine (5-4) in the first game.

Southern California College 15-5, Cal State Stanislaus 3-0--Stephanie Wills hit a bases-empty home run and had two runs batted in during the first game and Linda Bilyeu had two hits, scored a run and had one RBI for visiting Southern California College (5-3).

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s tennis.

Westmont 9, Southern California College 0--Dan McArthur’s 3-6, 6-7 loss was as close as SCC (3-6, 0-3) got to avoiding a sweep.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 9, Oregon 0--UC Irvine (5-7) swept all matches.
