MTV’s Disclaimer: MTV has found a new way to designate who sings and who lip-syncs in music videos. At the request of Sony Music Entertainment, the cable network has attached a disclaimer to the C+C Music Factory video “Gonna Make You Sweat,” crediting R&B; singer Martha Wash for background vocals and lip-syncing Zelma Davis for “visualization.” Wash, who says she was not properly compensated for singing on the record, has filed a lawsuit against Sony and the song’s producers for “fraud, deceptive packaging and commercial appropriation.”
