Rain Threatens Soccer Playoffs

Share

The San Diego Section will decide by noon today whether to play tonight’s scheduled boys’ and girls’ soccer playoff games.

Assistant Commissioner Jan Jessop said Thursday that the status of the playoffs was “day-to-day” because of storms that have covered the area. The rains threaten tonight’s Division I games at University of San Diego and the Division III games at Southwestern College.

Jessop said 10 inches of water covered the south end of the USD field, and that there was standing water in front of both goals and at midfield at Southwestern.

“It doesn’t look real good at some sites for (tonight) but there’s a possibility (to play at) some of the sites on Saturday if there isn’t a lot of moisture (Thursday) night,” Jessop said. “The best of both worlds would be if it stops raining and the wind blows.”

Games are scheduled Saturday at Torrey Pines and USD.

The section office will have the playoff information available after noon at 292-8165.
