NBA ROUNDUP : Bulls Win 22nd in Row at Chicago

Share

With Michael Jordan scoring 17 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter, the Chicago Bulls increased their home-court winning streak to 22 games with a 99-89 victory over the Utah Jazz Friday night at Chicago Stadium.

The Jazz led, 73-66, after three quarters, but Jordan took charge. The 6-foot-6 guard was shooting poorly from outside, so he started driving to the hoop and Utah couldn’t stop him.

With 2:40 to play, Scottie Pippen made a three-point basket to give the Bulls an 87-84 lead. A steal and a three-point play by Jordan put Chicago in command.

The Bulls held forward Karl Malone, averaging almost 30 points per game, to 19 points on eight-for-21 shooting.

Pippen had 19 points and 11 assists and was eight for 10 from the field.

“We just turned the ball over too much,” said Utah Coach Jerry Sloan, referring to seven turnovers in the final quarter that led to 12 Chicago points.

Phoenix 117, Washington 91--The Suns can do more than end streaks. They are pretty good at prolonging them, too.

Jeff Hornacek had 20 points, including two three-point baskets in a late first-quarter rally that put the Suns in front to stay at Landover, Md.

The Suns, who have won five in a row, extended the Bullets’ losing streak to eight games, including five at home.

With a well-balanced attack, the Suns moved within a game of the second-place Lakers in the Pacific Division.

The Bullets’ Bernard King, who had 50 points Wednesday night, scored 26 and sat out the fourth quarter with the Bullets far behind.

Atlanta 102, Miami 96--Duane Farrell scored all eight of his points in an 18-6 run in the second half that brought the Hawks from behind at Miami.

The Hawks, whose 22-game home winning streak was ended by the Suns Thursday night, trailed, 78-76, when Farrell came off the bench. When the run was over, they had a comfortable 94-84 lead.

It was only the Hawks’ fourth road victory in the last 16 games.

Orlando 129, Denver 113--Dennis Scott had 40 points and Scott Skiles had 20 assists to lead the Magic at Orlando, Fla.

The Magic, 7-6 since the All-Star break, took the lead 10 minutes into the game and led the rest of the way.

The Nuggets have won only three of 30 road games.

Sacramento 87, Cleveland 79--After losing nine in a row, the Kings won their second in a row at Sacramento. With 17 victories, they no longer have the worst NBA record.
