A Valencia man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon at his apartment complex Sunday after he fired five bullets into an unoccupied car that was parked in his assigned parking space, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Sgt. John Baylis said Joseph Madrid, 25, became enraged when he found a 1975 Chevrolet Suburban occupying his parking space at the complex in the 22900 block of Circle J Ranch Road. Madrid used a 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun to pump four bullets into the windshield and a fifth round into the driver’s side window about 2:30 a.m., Baylis said.

Madrid also brandished the gun at three residents who rushed out of their apartments when they heard the gunfire, Baylis said.

Madrid fled when patrol cars arrived and was arrested later at his apartment, deputies said. Madrid was being held at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station on $5,000 bail, Baylis said.
