Ex-Charger offensive lineman Dennis McKnight, who played the 1990 season with the Detroit Lions, signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent. McKnight is the first Plan B signee for the Eagles this year.

McKnight, 31, spent seven years with the Chargers. He lost his starting spot after injuring his knee in a 1989 exhibition game; he was sidelined for the entire season and cut during the 1990 preseason.

“We were quite impressed with what we saw when we studied films of Dennis,” offensive line coach Bill Walsh said. “We looked at most of the 1990 preseason, where he played a lot on the offensive line. Dennis is very enthusiastic about learning our system. He’s a real student of the game. He can help us at either guard or center and he can also snap on punts.”
