Bob Boone, who has caught more games than anyone in major league history--2,225--may not catch any more. The Seattle Mariners said Wednesday that they will not offer Boone, 43, a contract for this season. Boone was invited to camp as a nonroster player. He got into five exhibition games and was hitless in nine at-bats. “They told me last week that it didn’t look like they would keep me,” Boone said. . . . Oakland A’s left-handed relief pitcher Rick Honeycutt has a slight tear in the cartilage of his left shoulder and might have to undergo surgery, the team announced. If he has surgery, Honeycutt, 36, could be out of action for about six weeks, the A’s said. Honeycutt, who complained of soreness after last Thursday’s game, has pitched two innings in two games this spring and has given up nine runs.
