BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Dykstra Placed on 1-Year Probation
Lenny Dykstra was placed on one-year probation Wednesday by Commissioner Fay Vincent because of the Philadelphia Phillie outfielder’s gambling activities.
Dykstra, 28, who last week testified to losing $78,000 during poker games in Mississippi, must report to the commissioner’s office on a regular basis during the probationary period. Further gambling activity will result in more severe discipline, the commissioner said.
Dykstra would say only, “It’s over with,” before leaving the clubhouse after the Phillies’ exhibition game against the Dodgers.
