The arraignment of Cal State Fullerton basketball players Greg Vernon and Michael Bloodworth has been postponed until April 11 while the district attorney’s office further reviews their case.

Vernon and Bloodworth, 18-year-old freshmen who were arrested Feb. 27 in connection with the theft of a student’s car and the use of stolen credit cards, were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in North Orange County Municipal Court.

After an investigation by campus police, misdemeanor charges were filed two weeks ago against Vernon, who was charged with auto theft, Bloodworth, who was charged with auto theft and possession of stolen property, and Fullerton College student Gene Davis, who was charged with auto theft.

But separate felony charges for theft and possession of stolen property, based on a Buena Park Police Department investigation, also were filed against Vernon, one of the Titans’ most promising young players.

According to campus police investigator Mary Ranalli, the case was sent to a district attorney, who will decide whether felony charges should be filed against all three. “That’s why the case was delayed,” Ranalli said.

Vernon and Bloodworth, who missed the Titans’ last two games, have been suspended indefinitely from the team, and Fullerton Athletic Director Steve DiTolla said their chances of returning could decrease depending on the severity of the charges.

The incident will be reviewed by the office of the vice president of student affairs.
