Left-hander Teddy Higuera, who has chosen rehabilitation over surgery for a torn rotator cuff, was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Brewers chose to put Higuera on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Friday rather than the 60-day disabled list because they believe he will be able to pitch again by midseason.
Higuera, 32, signed a four-year, $13-million contract with the Brewers during the off-season despite two successive injury-filled seasons in which he won only 20 games.
