A garment factory worker confronted several burglars inside the Baldwin Park business early Tuesday and shot and killed one of them, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

The employee of Rosa’s Fashions at 1421 Vineland Ave. was not expected to face any charges as a result of the shooting. Sheriff’s Deputy Mary Landreth said the worker, who was not identified, usually spends the night inside the business on guard. About 2:40 a.m., he apparently surprised three or four men who had cut a hole in a side door to break into the business.

One of the intruders threw a metal pipe at the worker, who then shot the suspect in the chest with a .38-caliber pistol. Deputies found the 22-year-old man dead at the scene. Landreth said the rest of the suspects escaped, though one other may have also been wounded.
