Murdoch Newspaper to Close in Australia: The Australian arm of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire is to close one of its major newspapers just six months after merging its morning and evening dailies in Sydney and Melbourne, the company said. Melbourne’s money-losing Sunday Herald, launched in August, 1989, will cease publication immediately. The tabloid Sunday Sun, launched at the same time, will continue to publish as the Sunday Herald-Sun.
