Culver City : School Staff Cuts Approved
The Culver City school board has authorized cuts in non-teaching staff amounting to almost 50 full-time posts.
Included in the layoffs approved Tuesday are the equivalent of 23 instructional aides, seven full-time food service workers, nine custodians, groundskeepers and maintenance workers and seven library and office clerks.
The layoffs would become effective June 30. The district will hold hearings next week and at the April 16 board meeting to settle any questions about seniority rights.
District officials say the cuts are needed to deal with a deficit next school year estimated at $1.1 million. Thirty teachers, counselors and school administrators have also been slated for layoff.
