MARSEILLE, France —
Panama’s Victor Cordoba stopped France’s Christophe Tiozzo in the ninth round Friday night to win the World Boxing Assn. super-middleweight title.
Cordoba, in control from the first round, staggered Tiozzo several times but finally knocked him down 45 seconds into the ninth round of the scheduled 12-round bout. Tiozzo got up, but referee Enzo Montero of Venezuela ended the fight, Tiozzo’s first loss after 29 victories.
Cordoba is 20-2-2.
