Although Triumph of the Spirit (HBO Monday at 4:25 a.m., Thursday at 11:45 p.m.) never resolves its schism between drama and melodrama, inspiration and facile uplift, it holds you with its story of an actual Greek Jew, Salamo Arouch (Willem Dafoe), who strives to survive Auschwitz as a boxer, fighting over 200 bouts for the amusement of the camp officers. To the extent that the 1989 film lets the enormity of Auschwitz and its crimes pour through, it does manage a victory: compromised but real, flawed but searing.

Moon Over Parador (Channel 5 Monday at 8 p.m.), Paul Mazursky’s hilarious 1988 satire about a minor American actor (Richard Dreyfuss) strong-armed into masquerading as an inconveniently deceased Latin American dictator never quite got the attention it deserved. Edited.

I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang (TNT Wednesday at 12:30 a.m.): One of Mervyn LeRoy’s finest films--and one of the most uncompromising Hollywood films ever--this 1932 Warner Bros. classic, based on a true story, stars Paul Muni as an innocent man trapped in a brutal system of justice.
