A 33-year-old man, who had just been stabbed repeatedly by several men early Tuesday in the downtown area, staggered six blocks and collapsed, where another man robbed him of his wallet, authorities said.

Mark Staten was listed in good condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was taken after police found him, dazed and bleeding, about 1:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Market Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Staten told police four or five men attacked and stabbed him in the 1900 block of Market Street, Robinson said. He fled and was lying on the ground when another man, not in the first group, walked up to him and took his wallet.

Based on Staten’s description of the robber, police arrested Kevin Reddix, 27, and booked him into County Jail downtown on suspicion of grand theft, Robinson said.

Police were still searching for the stabbing suspects, Robinson said.
