Right-hander Bert Blyleven will be examined today by team orthopedist Lewis Yocum to determine whether Blyleven will need a second arthroscopic operation, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.

Blyleven, 40, has had a slow recovery from the procedure performed last October.

Yocum said he is doing today’s tests to pinpoint the cause of pain and weakness Blyleven has had in recent weeks. Yocum said the original tear in Blyleven’s shoulder found in last October’s arthroscope remains.

“Bert did not want to have a major repair,” Yocum said. “Now, he may do whatever it takes. Plus, we’re concerned something else may have gone wrong to account for this weakness.”
