Avocado aficionados are encouraged to try for the $5,000 grand prize in the second annual McCall’s Avocado Recipe Contest. There is no limit to the number of entries that you may submit as long as they are not guacamole recipes (which are not being accepted).

Dishes will be judged on originality, taste, appearance, ease of preparation, general appeal and creativity. “The recipes we received for last year’s contest showed a trend toward lighter and more healthful recipes,” says Mark Afflect, president of the California Avocado Commission and co-sponsor of the contest. Last year’s winner was a recipe for salad with fluffy avocado dressing.
